Swift Therapy for Warts
Warts on feet can be distressing, embarrassing, and in some instances even painful.
However, because traditional treatments for removing warts (such as cryotherapy, peeling acid, or surgery) also tend to be painful and inconvenient, many people who have them avoid seeking care. This not only leads to more frustration, but can also allow the warts to spread.
Fortunately, there’s now a better solution! It’s called Swift Microwave Therapy, and it’s safer, more convenient, far less painful, and yields much more consistent long-term results than any of the common “old school” treatments. And we’re proud to have it available for our patients here at Sierra Foot & Ankle.
What Is Swift Microwave Therapy and How Does It Work?
Swift is an advanced tool that uses a small dose of microwaves, applied for just 2-3 seconds, to eradicate warts from the inside out.
The microwaves heat up water molecules in skin, down to the depth where the virus that causes the wart resides. The resulting friction rapidly treats the damaged and infected tissue, immediately triggering a “healing cascade.”
It also alerts the attention of your body’s immune system, which normally doesn’t “patrol” the upper layers of skin as thoroughly as other parts of the body. Once the immune system discovers the viral infection, it sets to work eliminating it. This greatly reduces the risk of warts returning or spreading after initial treatment is complete.
A Huge Step Up Over Traditional Treatments
Older wart treatments—at least the ones most commonly offered by podiatrist, pediatricians, dermatologists, and other medical practitioners—are typically destructive in nature. The doctor uses a chemical agent, liquid nitrogen, or surgical tools to burn, freeze, cut out, or otherwise destroy and remove a wart from the outside in.
Although these treatments can work, they have a lot of downsides. They include pain during and after the treatment, collateral damage to healthy tissue, bleeding, bandaging, and aftercare. And because the treatments are focused on visible symptoms and not necessarily the viral infection, warts can often come back.
Swift improves on these treatments in several significant ways:
No post-procedural pain. You might feel some slight discomfort during the application itself, similar to what you might expect from an injection. But after a few seconds, it’s gone.
No collateral damage. We don’t need to cut, burn, or damage healthy skin in any way. There’s no bleeding or need for bandages.
It’s safe. Microwaves are controlled to a predetermined depth. No significant side effects have ever been reported, and Swift is safe even for kids, people with diabetes, and those with compromised immune systems.
High cure rate. Swift is an immunotherapy that attacks the virus causing the wart, not just the wart itself.
No aftercare. When you’re done with the session, you can go straight back to your normal routine. There’s no downtime and nothing you need to do to care for the wart after the session.
The Swift Procedure
Most people can be in and out of the office in 10-15 minutes at most.
At the beginning, we’ll lightly debride your wart in order to ensure good contact with the applicator wand. This only takes a few minutes at most and is completely painless and harmless.
Once the wart has been prepared, we apply the microwave therapy. As mentioned above, this only takes a few seconds. The wand uses a disposable, single-use applicator tip, so there is virtually no risk of cross contamination. After these few seconds are up, there should be no lingering pain whatsoever.
And that’s it for the session! You can put your socks and shoes back on and head back out.
It’s not uncommon for up to 3-4 treatment sessions to be required, especially if your warts are more severe. However, some people only need 1 or 2 sessions.
Don’t Be Shy About Treating Your Plantar Warts
There’s no need to be embarrassed about seeing a doctor for this very common condition. And now, thanks to Swift, there’s no need to be afraid about painful or inconvenient treatments, either!
Swift is not an experimental treatment. It’s FDA-approved, completely safe, and highly effective. It is quickly becoming more and more popular in physician offices around the country, and we’re glad to be able to provide it to our patients here in Carson City.
